The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has directed officers nationwide to take decisive action against individuals in possession of illegal firearms.
He emphasized strict enforcement of Force Order 327 to curb the loss of police personnel during encounters with armed criminals and to restore peace, particularly in Benue State.
Disu gave the order at the IGP town hall meeting with Governor Hyacinth Alia in Makurdi the Benue state capital as part of his operational visits, following the spate of killings across the state
The IGP listened to participants who raised key points on the motive the attack in Benue has assumed while also questioning why the police fail to arrest security threats where intelligence are made available
The IGP in addressing these concerns, directed police personnel to engage criminal bearing arms without any specific order as Force Order 327 insulates them and innocent persons from attacks.
He also tasked youths in Benue State to work with the police on intelligence gathering against all forms for criminality as the police will deal with criminal irrespective of their demography.
To compliment the directive, Governor Alia called for the implementation of state police to help the convention police deal with insecurity, just as the Tor Tiv pledged full support to any strategy that end the killings
The meeting was attended by security chiefs from the Nigerian police and other sister agencies.
