The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has condemned the tragic and “senseless” killing of a Nigerian national in Pune, India.
In a statement signed by its Director of Media, Public Relations, and Protocols, Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the commission identified the victim as Emeka Christian.
According to the commission, the victim was allegedly beaten to death by two of his brothers, Chukwudi Okafor, 31, and Samuel Eze, “over a romantic dispute.”
“We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved family and loved ones during this painful time. No family should endure such heartbreak,” the statement said.
NiDCOM called on the relevant Indian authorities to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation to ensure that justice is served without delay.
The commission also urged Nigerians living abroad to resolve conflicts peacefully and uphold the highest standards of conduct.
“As ambassadors of our great nation in their respective domains, your actions abroad reflect on Nigeria’s image. Let us choose unity, respect, and lawfulness in every situation,” the statement added.
Chairman and CEO of NiDCOM, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, emphasised that violence has no place among Nigerians and called for unity to build a stronger, more positive diaspora community.
“Violence has no place among us. Together, we can build a stronger, more positive diaspora community,” she was quoted as saying.
