Top leaders of the Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his predecessors, Babatunde Fashola and Akinwunmi Ambode, have unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in 2027.
The endorsement was made on Tuesday during the Lagos APC Stakeholders Forum 2025, held at Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, with key party figures and stakeholders in attendance.
The meeting brought together Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, his wife Oluremi, Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly Mudashiru Obasa, members of the APC National and State Working Committees, federal and state lawmakers, council chairmen, and traditional, religious, and youth leaders.
According to a statement by Governor Sanwo-Olu’s media aide, Gboyega Akosile, the motion to endorse Tinubu’s re-election bid was moved by the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, and seconded by Speaker Obasa.
Sanwo-Olu, speaking after the motion was passed, said President Tinubu had earned another term through his performance and delivery on campaign promises.
“Our president was once the 12th Governor of Lagos State. Having listened to all stakeholders, we have come to the conclusion that President Tinubu should return as our president in 2027,” Sanwo-Olu declared.
“I believe this message will reach Aso Rock and resonate across Nigeria,” he added.
Supporting the motion, Oba Shotobi said, “We endorse President Bola Tinubu to go for the second term. So I move.”
Obasa, while seconding, said, “In view of the submissions made by all stakeholders and the motion by our Royal Majesty, I do hereby second the motion.”
Deputy Governor Hamzat emphasised the importance of continuity in governance, describing Tinubu’s leadership as one marked by courage, vision, and reform.
“The reforms under President Tinubu have been driven by renewed hope, productive governance, and economic recovery. It is in our collective interest to support his leadership for a second term,” Hamzat said.
He also highlighted Lagos’ transformation under Sanwo-Olu’s administration, saying the THEMES+ Agenda had produced visible progress in transportation, healthcare, education, environment, and technology.
“Lagos stands tall today as a model of excellence and a beacon of good governance,” he added.
In his lecture titled “Voter Apathy and the Sanctity of Election in Nigeria’s Budding Democracy,” former governor Fashola urged APC members to mobilise voters, especially the youth, to participate actively in future elections.
“Political participation thrives on enthusiasm. If people are enthusiastic, they will turn out to vote. We are in a season of renewed hope let’s translate it into renewed strength for our party,” Fashola advised.
The Lagos APC Stakeholders Forum ended with a united call from party chieftains and grassroots leaders for continuity of leadership under Tinubu, describing his presidency as one that has set Nigeria on a path of economic and institutional reform.
