In a significant step toward bridging the infrastructure gap between rural and urban communities, the Lagos State Government, through the Office of Rural Development, has officially commenced the construction of the 4.2-kilometre Onosa/Onosa Y Junction–Fokunmade/Onosa Road 4 Expressway in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Rural Development, Dr. Nurudeen Yekinni Agbaje, reaffirmed the State Government’s commitment to inclusive development, emphasising that the project is a clear demonstration of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s determination to ensure no community is left behind in the administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus agenda.
He added that the road will significantly enhance connectivity to major economic hubs, unlocking socio-economic opportunities for the residents of the axis.
Dr. Agbaje also assured that the project would be delivered on time and to the highest standards, with regular monitoring by the officials in the Ministry in collaboration with community stakeholders to ensure transparency and accountability throughout the construction process.
The Special Adviser acknowledged the resilience and support of Ibeju-Lekki residents, urging continued collaboration with the government to ensure successful project delivery.
He also mentioned that the recent commencement of Onishon Street Road construction in the same axis, as well as ongoing rural development initiatives including water schemes, transformer provision, and empowerment programmes, all aimed at delivering the dividends of democracy to all corners of Lagos State.
In his remarks, the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki LGA, Engr. Abdullahi Sesan Olowa expressed gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for transforming the area into a developing mega-city through consistent infrastructure development.
The event was attended by dignitaries including: Hon. Isiaka Yusuf Olatunji, Vice Chairman, Ibeju-Lekki LGA; Hon. Eletu Allasan, APC Chairman, Ibeju-Lekki; Chief Lawrence Olayiwola Abudo, Baale of Obasa; Market leaders, Community Development Associations (CDAs), and other stakeholders.
