Israeli military spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, on Tuesday, declared that Israel would retaliate against Iran’s recent missile attack, saying “This attack will have consequences. We have plans, and we will operate at the place and time we decide.”
The attack, which occurred on Tuesday, saw Iran launch a barrage of missiles at Israel, with the Israeli military successfully intercepting a large number.
According to Hagari, “We have carried out a large number of interceptions. There were a few hits in the centre and other areas in the south of the country.” The Iranian attack marks the second direct strike on Israel since April, and has sparked widespread condemnation from the international community.
Global Response
The United States has pledged its support to Israel, with American forces ready to provide “additional defensive support” to protect the country ¹. A US defense official stated, “Our forces remain postured to provide additional defensive support and to protect US forces operating in the region.”
Germany has also weighed in, with Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock condemning the attack in the strongest possible terms. “Iran must stop the attack immediately” Baerbock posted on X, warning that the escalation could fuel further conflict and “lead the region further towards the abyss.”
US Vice President Kamala Harris has also spoken out against the attack, stating “I condemn this attack unequivocally.” Harris emphasized that Iran’s actions demonstrate its status as a “destabilizing, dangerous force in the Middle East.”
The Iranian attack is seen as a retaliation for Israel’s assassination of top Iranian military officials, including Hassan Nasrallah and Ismail Haniyeh. Iran’s end game is to eliminate the Jewish state, with the regime openly calling for Israel’s annihilation.
The international community has rallied behind Israel, with several countries, including the UK, Austria, and the Netherlands, condemning Iran’s actions. The United Nations has also spoken out against the attack, warning of the risks of escalation into a full-blown regional war.
