A two time governorship aspirant in Edo State and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), High Chief Jacob Egietseme Idinye has taken a swipe at the Osun State Senators’ Caucus of the PDP for endorsing President Bola Tinubu as its sole and legitimate presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections.

The Edo born politician described the moves as “anti party activities”.

Idinye added that it was too hasty for the parliamentarians to show their disloyalty to the party while also stressing that such decision was not in line with the party’s philosophy or expectations.

The PDP chieftain however expressed surprise that men who were expected to be distinguished in their conducts could condescend so low and treat their party with such contempt and disdain to satisfy their pecuniary gains.

It is recalled that Osun Federal lawmakers at the red chamber, Senator Kamarudeen Lere Oyewumi (Osun West), Senator Olubiyi Fadeyi Ajagunla (Osun Central), and Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, (Osun East), all affirmed their unwavering support for Tinubu’s continued leadership as Nigeria prepares for another presidential election in 2027.

Reacting to this on Wednesday during a chat with some senior political correspondents, Idinye said:

“This is really laughable and clearly bereft of every sense of tact and decency,  seeing the three Osun State PDP Senators throwing their weight behind President Bola Tinubu whose party hasn’t even endorsed for reelection in 2027. I would have expected them to defect to APC instead of this unholy and shameful anti party activities that lack moral justification. Meanwhile, for us in PDP, the choice between patriotic duty and political party loyalty is not just theoretical; it is a pivotal pathway that will determine the country’s trajectory for decades to come.

“When a nation’s actions are guided by collective foresight and unity of purpose, it flourishes. Nigeria should stand at such a juncture today, where its leaders and citizens must decide whether to rise above political prostitution or horse-trading or forge a lasting legacy of progress, inclusion, and hope for future generations.

“The old model of winner-takes-all governance, rooted in division, confusion and national disunity has left scars on the nation and we need to embrace a paradigm shift so that posterity can be kind to us. Institutions have weakened, trust has eroded, and opportunities have been squandered. The only Party that can change that negative narrative is the PDP and the party is ready to bring succor to the people irrespective of the activities of the few moles we have among us. Year 2027 is a defining moment for our nation and we won’t lose it.

“Yet, as dawn follows the darkest night, Nigeria’s potential remains untapped and unbroken. To realize this promise, we must embrace a governance model built on patriotic duty; one that transcends political obscurity and prioritizes the collective good for our party and ultimately for the larger good of Nigeria.

“Patriotism and loyalty must always come first and if this is lacking in the party you belong such person can never offer his or country any good. At the end of the day, if the country goes down in flames, the political parties will go down with it. Governments must always consider drawing from the best talent to govern effectively and PDP is that special purpose vehicle that can take Nigerians to its promise land.

“The decisions made by these Osun lawmakers will surely be closely watched, while I also plead with the party leadership at both State and Federal levels to wield their disciplinary actions without any further delay.

“Let me also add that this storm in the tea cup will also not make our party to lose focus on its strategic strengthening of presence in Osun State and Nigeria as a whole, through reconciliation, grassroots mobilization, and effective messaging, rather than entertaining opportunistic defections and treacherous behaviors of some few elements who have unveiled their vicious and reprehensible plots against the party that made them.

“PDP’s strong performance in the state, including its success in the House of Assembly elections, demonstrates its potential to deliver meaningful change and win the state for PDP presidential flag bearer in 2027,” Idinye declared.
