‘You’re A Man Of Double Honour’ Amekunlooye Hails Hon. Abegunde For Bagging Asiwaju Of Akure Land Title & Celebration Of 70th Birthday

Oya-based businessman, youth mobilizer and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Salako Amekunlooye has extended his congratulatory message to the Executive Director, Corporate Services of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde a.k.a. Abena, on the conferment of the traditional title of Asiwaju of Akure land by the Deji of Akure Land, His Royal Majesty, Oba Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo on Saturday, June 28, 2025.

Amekunlooye also exalted the virtues of Abegunde who also used the occasion to host his guests in commemoration of his 70th birthday anniversary.

Although, Abegunde was born in January, but he chose to roll out the drums on the day he would be officially decorated as the Asiwaju of Akure land.

The Oyo APC chieftain however described the title bestowed on the former Secretary to Ondo State Government (SSG) as a recognition of his values and contributions, eulogizing him as a great asset for the society. He acknowledges Abegunde’s dedication to the promotion of growth and social integration, pointing out that his title is a reflection of the high regard in which he is held.

According to Amekunlooye, “I wish to rejoice with you on your conferment of the Chieftaincy title, Asiwaju of Akure land. I also feel highly elated that His Royal Majesty, Oba Aladelusi Aladetoyinbo is installing one of his most illustrious sons with this prestigious honour same year he clocked 70. Indeed, Abena is a man of double honour.

“The choice of Honourable Ifedayo Abegunde is a deliberate decision of the Akure’s highly revered monarch and his council to prioritize leadership rooted in humility and compassion, an invitation to redefine the essence of leadership and encourage leaders everywhere to reflect upon the values and qualities that truly matter.

“For me, I received the news with great joy and happiness. It is my most noble, unquenchable and utmost prayer that the Almighty God will continue to grant Abena good health, even as He guides and prospers him in the many more years of fulfilling service ahead of him.

“Similarly, I humbly, profoundly and sincerely congratulate you on the attainment of this milestone as it coincides with the day you set aside to commemorate your 70th birthday anniversary.

“It is a day to celebrate your strength, courage and contributions , which confirms you as one of the most ebullient personalities in the society who deserves the title in view of your sterling leadership and the active role you play in both private and public service both in Nigeria and outside the shores of Africa.

“Abena was born on January 10, 1955, he started from a civil engineering background. He enlarged his scope with architectural studies before moving into the esteemed chambers of the House of Representatives. His variegated forays endowed him with a plethora of skills and experiences.

“The astute and dogged politician also attended at St. David’s Primary School, Akure, and Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure. He thereafter acquired a B.Sc in Architecture from Florida A&M University, Tallahassee, Florida, U.S.A.

“This illustrious son of Akure also obtained his Master’s in Architecture from Morgan State University, Baltimore, Maryland, U.S.A.

“His professional journey began as an Assistant Civil Engineer at Akintobi-Oyenekan & Associates, where he played an instrumental role in developing roads in Ondo State.

“His career then spanned across international borders to the USA, where he showcased his technical prowess as a Systems Engineer for both the State of Maryland and the United States Patent and Trade Organization.

“In politics, his commitment to the public good has been evident. As a Member of the House of Representatives, he chaired committees on Inter-Governmental Affairs and the National Emergency Management Agency. His dedication to governance and statecraft further propelled him to serve as the Secretary to Ondo State Government (SSG) from 2017-2020.

“Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde is not just a seasoned professional or political figure; he’s a harmonious blend of both. He is dedicated to exploring new territories, improving built environments, and positively impacting his local government, state, and the nation.

“Hon. Ifedayo possesses various certifications, including those from Microsoft, Cisco, and the American Society of Professional Estimators. His attributes resonate with organizational restructuring, team collaboration, excellent communication, relentless pursuit of objectives, and fostering strong interpersonal relationships.

“I pray Almighty God in his infinite mercy to guide and protect you throughout your stay on earth. Congratulations to the latest septuagenarian and Asiwaju of Akure land, a man class, integrity, dignity and finesse”
