Elder statesman and First Republic politician, Alhaji Tanko Yakasai, has commended Nigerians for their support and prayers for the success of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Speaking to journalists in Kano on Sunday, Yakasai described the administration’s progress and achievements as testaments to the trust Nigerians have placed in it.

“From some of the reports I received, the prices of basic foodstuffs have been coming down. Unlike before, families can now afford to buy essentials such as rice, beans, maize, sorghum, and other food items needed to feed their homes,” he said.

He also pointed to improvements in fuel prices, which he believes will ease the financial burden on Nigerians.

“I was also made to understand that the cost of petrol at filling stations has been coming down.

“In some places, I was told that petrol is now being dispensed for about N850 per litre instead of the earlier N1,150.

“This is good for transportation costs and will make movement easier for Nigerians,” he stated.

As a key supporter of Tinubu’s 2023 election bid, Yakasai urged Northerners to rally behind the administration, emphasizing that the region has not been sidelined in national affairs.

The former adviser to former president Shehu Shagari and ex-National Publicity Secretary of the NEPU further asserted that Tinubu’s best was yet to come, as his government had lined up numerous developmental and people-friendly policies to benefit Nigerians, particularly in the North.

He called on Nigerians, especially politicians, to contribute meaningfully to governance through constructive criticism and informed political engagement, noting that such efforts would strengthen democracy and enrich the nation’s political landscape.

Yakasai also took the opportunity to express his condolences to the families of the late Chief Ayo Adebanjo and the late Chief Edwin Clarke, as well as to the people of the South-West and South-South regions, over their passing.

“The loss of these two great and patriotic Nigerians, who were not only my political associates but also personal friends, is a great tragedy for the nation,” he said, praying to Allah to forgive their shortcomings and grant them eternal rest.
