DSS debunks claim it arrested Evangelist Ukpo Daniel over viral herdsmen-attack video, warning against misinformation capable of inflaming public tension.

The Department of State Services (DSS) has expressed dismay over a false and misleading Facebook post alleging that it arrested Evangelist Ukpo Daniel for raising a false alarm in a video claiming that Fulani herdsmen attacked a crusade in Agboda Village, Nasarawa State.

In a statement, Favour Dozie, Deputy Director of Public Relations and Strategic Communications at the National Headquarters of the State Services, described the allegation as incorrect and seemingly intended to cast the Service in a negative light and incite public tension.

To clarify the situation, the DSS stated that Evangelist Ukpo Daniel was neither invited nor arrested by the Service.

His spouse, Elizabeth—who authored the Facebook post—confirmed when contacted that she and her husband were at the Police Headquarters in Lafia, not in DSS custody.

The Service warned that such misrepresentations, particularly those capable of inflaming public sentiment or disrupting ongoing operations, are taken very seriously.

The DSS therefore urges the public to rely solely on verified information and official communication channels to curb the spread of disinformation, which could be exploited to distort national security matters.
