President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has celebrated Dr Segun Osoba, a distinguished historian, activist, and scholar, whose contributions to Nigeria’s development continue to resonate across generations, on his 90th birthday anniversary.

In a statement issued on Friday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described Dr. Osoba as “one of Nigeria’s finest minds,” commending his tireless efforts in advancing scholarship and advocating for social justice and good governance.

Dr. Osoba, who retired as a history lecturer from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, in 1991, has remained a respected voice in academia and activism, operating from his hometown of Ijebu-Ode in Ogun State.

“Dr. Osoba’s contributions to the frontiers of knowledge and his inspiration to generations of Nigerians are exemplary,” the President said.

Highlighting Dr. Osoba’s role in shaping Nigeria’s constitutional development, President Tinubu recalled his membership in the committee that drafted the 1979 Constitution, which laid the foundation for the nation’s Second Republic.

Notably, Dr. Osoba, alongside Dr. Yusuf Bala Usman, produced a minority report recommending the removal of immunity clauses for Presidents and governors and lowering the minimum age for political officeholders to 30.

Although the report was rejected at the time, it remains a testament to Dr. Osoba’s progressive vision for Nigeria.

President Tinubu expressed gratitude for Dr. Osoba’s patriotism and dedication to the nation, praying for his continued health and long life.
