President Bola Tinubu has appointed Rinsola Abiola, daughter of the late MKO Abiola, as Director-General of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre (CLTC). MKO Abiola was the acclaimed winner of the annulled June 12, 1993, presidential election and a key figure in Nigeria’s pro-democracy movement.
According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Rinsola Abiola is an expert in strategic communication and government relations, having previously served as Senior Special Assistant to the President.
In the same announcement, President Tinubu named Nasir Bala Aminu Ja’oji as Senior Special Assistant on Citizenship and Leadership.
Ja’oji, a former Special Adviser on Mobilisation to the Governor of Kano State, is recognized for his advocacy on women and youth empowerment and community development.
Both appointees will work closely to advance the CLTC’s mandate of promoting leadership values and civic engagement nationwide.
The appointments have sparked criticism, with some alleging that Tinubu’s administration favours political allies, relatives of influential figures, tribesmen, and loyalists in key postings.
However, the Presidency maintains that these decisions are based on competence and a record of service.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Ms. Rinsola Abiola as Director-General of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre (CLTC)… In addition, President Tinubu appointed Nasir Bala Aminu Ja’oji as Senior Special Assistant on Citizenship and Leadership,” Onanuga stated.
