President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Mrs. Omotenioye Majekodunmi as the new Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC).
The appointment, announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, takes immediate effect.
Mrs. Majekodunmi, a seasoned climate finance expert and environmental lawyer, succeeds Dr. Nkiruka Madueke, who was appointed as the Council’s pioneer head in June 2024.
With over 17 years of experience, Majekodunmi has worked with both global and national institutions on renewable energy, carbon markets, and climate governance.
Until her appointment, she served as the NCCC’s Financial Adviser, where she played a pivotal role in shaping Nigeria’s climate policies and international climate engagements.
The statement noted that President Tinubu expressed gratitude to the outgoing Director-General, Dr. Madueke, for her “dedicated service and strong foundation for the Council’s continued growth.”
