The Nigeria Police Force has summoned the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, for questioning over an incident that occurred during the recent Sallah festivities.
According to an official letter dated April 4, 2025, and signed by CP Olajide Rufus Ibitoye on the instruction of the Inspector General of Police, Emir Sanusi is expected to appear at the Force Intelligence Department headquarters in Abuja by 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
Security agencies had earlier placed a restriction on Durbar activities during the Sallah period due to safety concerns.
Despite the directive, Emir Sanusi reportedly led Durbar processions and paid a visit to the Kano Government House, attracting large crowds.
The entourage was, however, in cars as against the traditional horse ride.
Prior to the invitation, a 20-year-old man, Usman Sagiru, from Sharifai Quarters, was arrested for allegedly involved in the killing and assault on vigilance group members on the Emir’s entourage after Eid prayers on March 30, 2025.
In connection with the ongoing investigation, the Kano State Police Command has also invited Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for interrogation on possible violation of police ban.
