Otunba Segun Showunmi, convener of the National Opposition Movement Coalition (NOMC), a platform aimed at fostering grassroots consensus for the selection of future leaders has debunked the claims making the rounds on the social media that Ogun State government under Governor Dapo Abiodun had no ambulances to cater to better health care.

Showunmi decried attempts by social media influencers to insult the collective sensibility of the people or to distort facts, adding that public discourse must be guided by truth and responsibility.

While condemning the acts of misinformation being carried out by some overzealous individuals, Showunmi however prayed for the repose of those who died in the ghastly auto accident which happened on December 29, 2025, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in the Makun area of Ogun State, where heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua narrowly escaped death.

Read Showunmi’s statement in extenso as reproduced hereunder:

Ogun has better health care than most states and certainly has ambulances.

That a celebrity was involved in a serious accident is no justification to insult our collective sensibility or distort facts. While emotions are understandably high in moments like this, public discourse must still be guided by truth and responsibility.

May the lost souls rest in peace, and may our son, Anthony Joshua, recover fully and regain complete health soon.

Ogun State does have ambulances. This is not conjecture; I have personally seen them displayed and deployed. It is therefore important that discussions around emergency health response in the state are grounded in verifiable facts, not assumptions or sensational claims.

I know Dr. Tomi Coker, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, very well. She is a consummate professional and not the type to be negligent in matters of public health. Her record reflects competence, diligence, and a clear commitment to service.

Indeed, healthcare is one of the sectors where Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration has earned some of its strongest accolades. Across several wards in Ogun State, primary healthcare systems are functional, improving, and in many cases top-notch.

Constructive criticism remains vital in a democracy, but it must be fair, factual, and responsible. Ogun State’s progress in healthcare deserves to be assessed based on truth, not emotion-driven narratives.
