Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, the chairman of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Board, has assured league stakeholders and fans of ongoing improvements in the competition.

He emphasised that while no system is perfect, the NPFL remained committed to continuous progress in alignment with international best practices.

Speaking after receiving the NPFL’s audited financial statement for the period ending June 30, 2024, Hon. Elegbeleye reflected on the league’s progress over the past three years.

He highlighted the board’s efforts in increasing the league winner’s cash prize from N100 million in the first year to N150 million in the second, and now 2200 million for the 2024/2025 season.

“We have honored our commitment regarding the prize money. With our partnership with GTI, referees now receive their allowances directly, which has significantly improved the standard of officiating. We have also just received our audited financial statement for the past 18 months,” he stated.

Hon. Elegbeleye further outlined the NPFL board’s long-term vision of establishing a self-sustaining system. A key part of this vision includes educating stakeholders on effectively managing professional league teams.

To support this, the introduction of Vagency Consulting aims to enhance scouting efforts, with additional training programs planned for other aspects of football club management.
