The Director General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Onilu Isa has disclosed plans by the agency to create Citizens Brigade in Nigeria to add to the existing brigades.
The Director General of NOA in Benue State, disclosed this in his office in Makurdi, Benue State capital.
Briefing newsmen on the National Value Charter and National Anthem, Onilu who spoke via, Akoji David, explained that the main aim of creating citizen brigade is to sensitize the Nigerian children on how to love, defend, cherish and as well respect the culture and norms of the country.
He stated that Boys Brigade and Boys Scott have been performing a great role in the country which in the same vein, the intended Citizens Brigade will serve though greater, modernize and digitize level.
In a remark, the state Director, Audu Bitrus stated the seven responsibilities of a government and those of the citizens is code named “The Nigeria Promise” and “The Citizens Code”.
Bitrus emphasized that the responsibilities are not far fetched from equality, democracy, entrepreneurship/ employment, industry and meritocracy as well as peace/ security for “The Nigerian Promise”.
While for “The Citizens Code” we have, discipline, duty of care, tolerance/respect, leadership and transparency as well as resilience and environment awareness creation”.
He advised both the government and the citizens to stick to their responsibilities in other to keep the country in a better position so that the children who are future leaders will build on to take the country to its great heights as enshrined in the re-adopted National Anthem.
“Nigerians should call it re-adopted National Anthem than referring to it as a new Nigeria National Anthem”, he emphasized.
