The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) would soon roll out its diaspora contactless enrolment software to enable Nigerians in Diaspora experience seamless enrolment for National Identity Number (NIN).
So far over 118 million Nigerians have been captured in the National Identity database of the country with 15,000 NIN enrolment centres nationwide, our Correspondent gathered in Abuja at the weekend.
Also it was gathered that for now there are about 200 NIN enrolment centres in 50 countries outside Nigeria to provide NIN services for Nigerians in diaspora.
The Director General and Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission, NIMC, Engr Abisoye Coker-Odusote dropped the hints while Speaking with our Correspondent in Abuja.
Engr Coker-Odusote who spoke exclusively with our Correspondent, said NIMC within the past 18 months has achieved certain milestones to scale up financial inclusion, promote employment opportunities for Nigerians, enhance transparency and accountability in delivery of government services and boost the country’s Gross Domestic Product, GDP.

Engr Coker-Odusote who spoke through the NIMC Head of Corporate Communications, Dr Kayode Adegoke, said NIMC has engaged in broad collaborations with Federal Ministry of Agriculture and the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, amongst others institutions to ensure that government services reached the targeted beneficiaries seamlessly.
Besides, Engr Coker-Odusote said the Commission has also implemented a 25% and 35% increase in staff salaries as approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that staff welfare remains a top priority to the present leadership.
Engr Coker-Odusote said:” The Commission has simplified the process of NIN Modifications through the deployment of the Self-service portal, thereby allowing the NIN Holders to modify their data from the comfort of their homes/offices
” The Government to People Card (G2P) has been initiated and been put into use by the Ministry of Agriculture and NELFUND. This card promote transparency and accountability. It eliminate impersonation or any form of identity theft. And this is critical to the provision of dividends of democracy to the people under the present administration.
” Plans are also underway to launch the Improved NIMC General Multi-Purpose Card (eID). The card could be used for different types of financial transactions both online and offline. It would serve Nigerians both in urban and rural areas. The unserved population in rural areas would enjoy the benefits of the card.”
According to the NIMC boss, government agencies and the private sector have adopted the NIN for verification and authentication for various services, stressing that adoption rate by the private sector stands at 85 percent while it peaked at 55 at public sector.
She said the Commission also plans to launch the NIN “Pre-Enrolment Portal”, a secure and user-friendly platform designed to simplify the National Identification Number (NIN) enrolment process to decongest the offices.
She listed the key features and benefits of the Pre-enrolment Portal as convenience as it enables users to pre-enter and schedule appointments from anywhere for physical data capture at enrolment centres.
Others are time-saving, enhanced security as it ensures confidentiality and secure handling of personal data as well as seamless Integration which connects with NIMC’s central database for efficient enrolment processing.
Engr Coker-Odusote said the commission has kick-started the upgrade of the National PKI under her purview, NIMC is in the process of launching the NIN AUTHENTICATION Platform, NINAuth.
“The NIN Auth introduces a robust layer of protection, empowering individuals with greater control over their personal information. The consent-based platform fosters trust, transparency, and user autonomy in digital identity management by requiring explicit consent before data is shared for Know Your Customer (KYC) processes or other verifications,” Engr Coker-Odusote asserted.
She added that with NIN Auth, individuals can securely verify their identity and access key government services, including, Immigration applications and passport processing, tax filings and financial transactions, driver’s license renewals and other regulatory processes.
