The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced that the travel ban placed on Fuji music icon, Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, will remain indefinite, contrary to the earlier six-month restriction.

Speaking during an interview on TVC on Thursday, NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mike Achimugu, clarified that the ban would last until investigations into the recent airport incident involving the singer are fully concluded.

“It is no longer a six-month issue. The restriction will remain in place until the investigation is complete. There is no definite timeline,” Achimugu stated.

Shedding light on the preliminary findings, Achimugu explained that KWAM 1 had cleared security checks and accessed the VIP lounge, where it is believed he obtained a bottle of water. However, as he approached boarding, another layer of screening flagged the liquid, and he was told he could not board with it.

“The allegation is that he refused to comply and continued towards the aircraft. Security personnel, likely trying to avoid escalation, walked alongside him to the tarmac,” he said.

The situation escalated when the singer attempted to prove the liquid was harmless by splashing the water, part of which landed on the pilot. Offended, the pilot returned to the aircraft and shut the door.

Achimugu emphasized that these details are based on preliminary reports and not yet conclusive. He assured that the case is being treated with seriousness and transparency.

“This matter has been escalated to the highest legal authorities in the country, including the Attorney-General of the Federation and the Inspector-General of Police. We are committed to a thorough process, and the findings will be made public once finalized,” he added.

The NCAA continues to investigate the incident in collaboration with relevant agencies and has vowed not to let the case be swept under the carpet.
