In a renewed effort to curb smuggling and economic sabotage along Nigeria’s maritime and border corridors, the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB) Badagry has handed over a large consignment of seized contraband items to relevant government agencies.
The items, which were confiscated during a series of intelligence-driven operations in recent weeks, include 420 bags of smuggled foreign parboiled rice transferred to the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Seme Area Command, 55 bags of the same product handed to the NCS Western Marine Command, and 75 jerry cans of 30 litres each of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) turned over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Badagry Division.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Commanding Officer, Captain (NN) B.O. Omotayo, represented by the Base Executive Officer, reaffirmed the Base’s unwavering commitment to ensuring a secure and lawful maritime environment.
He noted that the operations were carried out in strict compliance with the Harmonized Standard Operating Procedures (HSOP) for arrest and handover, as well as established regulations guiding inter-agency collaboration.
Captain Omotayo commended the personnel of FOB Badagry for their professionalism and vigilance, stressing that the Base will continue to intensify surveillance and patrol efforts within its area of operations to deter smugglers and other maritime offenders.
He reiterated that the Forward Operating Base remains steadfast in achieving the strategic and operational objectives of the Nigerian Navy in line with the directives and vision of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral I. Abbass.
The handover exercise underscores the Nigerian Navy’s continued commitment to inter-agency cooperation and its central role in safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime and border environments against economic crimes and illicit activities.
