IPAC Convenes Meeting To Boost Women’s Participation In Politics

The Inter-Party Advisory Council of Nigeria (IPAC) has summoned a crucial meeting of political party chairmen, stakeholders, and leaders from Kwara, Cross River, Ekiti, Ebonyi, Borno, Kaduna, and other states to explore strategies for maximizing women’s involvement in politics.

The one-day zonal seminar, held in Calabar, the Cross River State capital, was designed for male leaders of political parties.

It aimed to inspire support for women’s political leadership and discuss how parties can implement the charter of demands ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking at the event, Cross River State IPAC Chairman, Engr. Edet Effiom Okon, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to advancing women’s transformational leadership.

He emphasised that IPAC would collaborate with the state government to ensure women, starting from the grassroots, are actively involved in politics.

“I want to first express appreciation to the executive Governor Of Cross River State Senator Bassey Edet Otu, the women friendly Governor. We are committed to bringing all our women into politics, women deserve to compete for elective offices with their male counterparts.

“Let’s continue to advocate for women’s inclusiveness in politics. husband’s please support your wife’s. Our women should be given an opportunity to thrive and go into politics”- He said.

The IPAC chairman for Akwa Ibom State, Blessing Umoren, also spoke at the event, reiterating the importance of women’s participation in politics.

According to her, “Women’s participation in politics is not just a matter of equality, but also a matter of justice,” she said.

Umoren emphasised that women’s participation in politics is essential for achieving sustainable development and promoting peace and security.

“When women are involved in decision-making, they bring a unique perspective that takes into account the needs of all members of society,” she said.

The All Progressive Congress APC Chairman for Cross River State, Ogar Alphonsus Eba Esq. who also spoke at the event, emphasized the importance of women’s participation in politics.

He noted that the All Progressive Congress APC is committed to promoting women’s inclusiveness in politics and has implemented measures to increase women’s participation in the party.

The seminar featured presentations from experts on women’s political participation. Participants also had the opportunity to share their experiences and challenges, and to learn from each other.

The event was attended by chairmen of political parties from various states, as well as other stakeholders, including women’s rights activists and community leaders, and media practitioners.
