A two time governorship aspirant in Edo State and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) High Chief Jacob Egietseme Idinye has taken a swipe at Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed for openly expressing readiness to work with the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, (LP), in the 2023 general elections, Peter Obi.
Obi had on Thursday, March 13, 2025 met with Governor Mohammed, who doubles as chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum. The said meeting held at Ramat House in Bauchi state.
Idinye in a chat with some political correspondents on Thursday in Abuja decried the speculation over potential political realignments ahead of the 2027 general election between the two politicians describing it as anti-party activities on the part of Bauchi Governor.
“Political activities require 100% loyalty from all members of the party, therefore what we all saw today in Bauchi State is simply anti party activities. How can a sitting Governor host a presidential candidate of another party and expressing readiness to work with him in 2027? This is patently reprehensible and perverse. It is also an insult on all PDP members and its leadership, meanwhile I expect Bala Mohammed to make necessary amends and retrace his steps accordingly in the nick of time.
“This is the man who practically ruined the chances of PDP candidate in the 2023 presidential election. Well nothing may be wrong hosting Obi, but what made it worse was that a PDP Governor declaring that he would work with him. PDP needs to be circumvent and activate its disciplinary actions on any erring members, no matter how highly placed.
“Obi should visit his own party men and make peace with them and as well reunite them, including party members who hold elective positions as Governor and legislators some of whom had defected to APC, he should leave PDP alone. This is how he visited PDP Governors and states back then and at the end, votes were divided in the election. If his plan was to rejoin PDP he should do so by going through the right channel.
“The general public utterances, innuendos and conduct of Bala Mohammed in today’s meeting have pointed to the fact that he may likely frustrate and if possible, prevent the PDP of making head way in 2027 presidential election, the party leaders should take note of this and should not give room for any mole to ruin the fortunes of our party. It is appalling and highly preposterous for the Governor to engage in an unholy romance with Peter Obi at a time like this,” Idinye said.
