The Edo State government, on Friday, announced the nomination of four nominees for appointment as Commissioners pending approval of the State House of Assembly.

Governor Monday Okpebholo selected a mix of experienced politicians and private sector professionals for the roles.

The list includes former Edo State House of Assembly member Godwin Afekokhe Eshieshi, who previously served as local government chairman in the late 1990s.

Also nominated was Prince Kassim Afegbua, an experienced journalist and former Commissioner for Information in the state.

The governor’s choices further include Ohimai Ehijimetor, an engineer and business manager, and banking executive Eugenia Abdallah.

In a separate announcement, the governor appointed two officials to focus on youth engagement.

Aigbogun Collins, former chairman of Esan West local government area, will serve as special adviser to the governor on youth mobilisation, while Osobase Oboaguina becomes senior special assistant for youth mobilisation in Edo Central district.

The commissioner-nominees will now proceed to the State House of Assembly for their confirmation hearings. If approved, the new appointees will join Governor Okpebholo’s administration as it approaches its second year in office.

The announcement comes as the state government prepares to implement new development programmes across Edo State.
