Lagos socialite and former Permanent Secretary in the State’s Ministry of Physical Planning, Sir Muritala Tolagbe Animashaun has died.
He was 73 years old.
Tolagbe a.k.a. Baba Ibeta was son of late popular Lagos Islamic broadcaster and cleric, Muritala Ajadi Animashaun
He died on Tuesday September 9, 2025 in a Lagos hospital, the Animashaun Family of Lagos revealed according to a family source Tuesday night.
Popularly called Tola Animashaun, the former Lagos Central senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was younger brother to Alhaji Abdul Yakeen Olanrewaju Animashaun, late father of former Minister of Communications, Major General Tajudeen Olanrewaju (Rtd), and late Ganiyu Kayode Animashaun.
“Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilayhi Raji’un. With deep sadness and gratitude to Almighty Allah, we announce the demise of our father, brother, grandfather, and uncle.
“Muritala Tolagbe Ajadi Animashaun (Baba ibeta), on September 9th, 2025.
“Burial arrangements- Wednesday 10th September 2025 @ Ahmadiyah Central Mosque Simpson Street Ebute Metta at 1pm Prompt.
“Interment according to Islamic Rites @ Ebony Vaults Ikoyi at 3pm,” said the family source.
In the meantime, General Olanrewaju has paid his tribune to the deceased.
“Tola, I found it difficult to believe that you have taken a heavenly flight to the right station endowed for the followers of true religion and those who possess pure heart. You didn’t know how to lie. You were Omo Eko Pataki, fearless, defiant, but generous and kind.
“May Allah rest his soul in Aljanah Fridous. Amen,” the General mourned.
The Lagos socialite has been laid to rest in accordance with Islamic rulings on funeral practices and burial etiquettes.
