The Federal Government has introduced the BisonFly Project, a new initiative aimed at reducing air travel costs within the Federal Civil Service.
A statement from the Ministry of Finance said the programme will be implemented through a centralised, optimised, and technology-driven discount system designed to streamline air travel arrangements for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government.
At the project launch in Abuja on Thursday, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, described BisonFly as a strategic initiative crafted by the Federal Ministry of Finance.
He revealed that the project is part of the government’s efforts to reduce expenditures by leveraging collective bargaining power to secure discounted air travel rates for civil servants.
“This initiative supports our commitment to responsible financial management,” Edun stated.
“By centralising travel bookings and securing discounted fares, we aim to reduce costs and enhance service delivery, similar to the practices adopted by international organisations such as the World Bank.”
The BisonFly system will incorporate digital booking tools and centralized platforms to ensure that official travel arrangements are made with increased transparency and efficiency. The platform is expected to be operational in the coming months.
The Minister also tasked the project implementation team with ensuring the successful execution of this critical government initiative, stressing the importance of adhering to timelines and achieving measurable results.
Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Federal Ministry of Finance, Raymond Omenka Omachi, described the BisonFly Project as a model for fiscal responsibility in the public service, with the potential for broader applications beyond government operations.
The project was developed by the Ministry’s Efficiency Unit in collaboration with ICT experts and other relevant stakeholders.
A dedicated team has been set up to oversee its rollout, ensuring that the program delivers tangible improvements in cost management and public sector operations.
The BisonFly Project is a key component of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to enhance fiscal discipline and improve the efficiency of public sector services in Nigeria.
