The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has formally resigned from his position.

Ganduje, a former Governor of Kano State, submitted his resignation letter on Friday to the National Working Committee (NWC) through the party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, citing health concerns as the reason for his decision.

In the letter, Ganduje explained that he needed to step down to prioritise his well-being. He was elected as the APC’s sixth National Chairman on August 3, 2023.

Following his resignation, the Deputy National Chairman (North), Hon. Abubakar Dalori, is expected to assume leadership in an acting capacity, pending the party’s national convention scheduled for December.

The resignation sent shockwaves through the APC headquarters at Muhammadu Buhari House in Abuja, where staff and party members were seen in a state of confusion, discussing the unexpected development.

A senior administrative staff member disclosed that all personal items belonging to Ganduje and his aides had already been cleared from his office.

When contacted, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, said he was not yet aware of the resignation but promised to confirm the situation.

Members of the NWC reportedly expressed shock over the sudden move, with some claiming ignorance of the decision. One committee member was said to have immediately contacted his state governor, who reassured him that the committee would remain intact.

A reliable source within the party, however, confirmed that the resignation affected only the National Chairman.

“It is only the National Chairman who was affected. All other members of the NWC are still to carry on in their positions. The office of the National Chairman will be filled during the next National Convention in December,” our source hinted.
