Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), operators of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Two (MMA2), Lagos, has said that as part of its commitment to environmental sustainability, it recently joined communities worldwide in the collective effort to clean up litter and promote a cleaner, healthier planet.
The company, in a statement by Ajoke Yinka-Olawuyi, Head, Corporate Communications, BASL, said this was in celebration of the World Clean-up Day, which took place recently.
The statement quoted Nafisat Adeniran, the Head of Safety, BASL, as saying that the company in its own way of joining the activated five per cent of the world’s population, it organised awareness events to engage all its drivers.
The essence of this, she said, was to educate them on how to manage wastes within and outside the terminal.
Besides, she stated that the company also educated them on how to dispose of it correctly and to ensure that all their vehicles were equipped with baskets so that waste was properly collected and disposed of.
She added: “We did rally up drivers and MMA2 top management to take part in this event by cleaning up the driver’s park as evidence of top leadership commitment. We would continually reiterate our eco-friendly programme – the recycle waste.
“MMA2 is committed to environmental sustainability through its different initiatives from the management of the specialised Foreign Object Debris (FOD) waste on the apron to recycling of general waste on the landside and taking part in the World Clean-up Day to sensitise people and to join the millions of volunteers around the globe to tackle the global mismanaged waste crisis and to help create a new, more sustainable and waste-free world keep for this and future generations.”
She added that the terminal operator also organised a clean-up event at the terminal, stressing that volunteers from the company participated to collect waste and restore the area to its natural beauty.
To mark the day, the senior management team of BASL went out to the driver’s park and cleaned it up, trashing waste appropriately.
Also, Yinka-Olawuyi pointed out that the company recognised the importance of a clean and healthy environment to the aviation industry and the entire ecosystem.
She insisted that at Bi-Courtney, sustainability was embedded in its operational ethos, adding that World Clean-up Day offered it the opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to maintaining a greener planet.
“Through this initiative, we hope to inspire individuals and other organisations to prioritise environmental cleanliness for the benefit of future generations,” she added.
