Airline operator, Aero Contractors, has refunded over N257.1m to passengers between January and August 2025, representing a 137 per cent growth in refunds compared to 2024.

The move aligns with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority’s push for stricter compliance with consumer protection regulations.

Figures posted on the NCAA’s official X account on Saturday showed the airline refunded N257,195,724.39 within the period under review, compared to N108,308,037.40 in 2024 and N32,766,652.30 in 2023.

The airline also disclosed that hotel accommodation expenses for passengers between January and July 2025 stood at N6,083,229.

Verified records included bills with Cocos Hotel and Grand Cubana Hotel, Abuja; NOCY Castle Hotel and Kim Royal Hotel; JC42 Apartment, Asaba; and Mayor & Diplomat Hotel, Lagos.

This development follows the NCAA’s directive earlier this year mandating airlines to process refunds promptly and in full compliance with Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023, which governs consumer protection.

In July, NCAA Director-General convened a meeting with domestic airlines, stressing the regulator’s zero-tolerance stance on delayed refunds and flight disruption compensations. Airlines were warned that non-compliance could attract sanctions, including fines and possible suspension of operations.

“The figures above show that there is a remarkable improvement in compliance with Part 19 of the NCAA Regulations 2023,” Aero Contractors stated.

While acknowledging industry challenges, the NCAA assured passengers of its continued commitment to consumer rights, noting, “The Authority will continue to protect the rights of all stakeholders,” it said.
