Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has lauded former governor Dr. Olusegun Mimiko as a trailblazing leader who served the state with distinction and left an indelible mark in its history.
Aiyedatiwa gave this glowing tribute in Akure during the Special Divine Agenda Praise Evening organized to celebrate Mimiko’s 70th birthday. The event was attended by former members of Mimiko’s executive council, political officeholders, former lawmakers, and traditional rulers.
The governor described Mimiko’s leadership as transformational, emphasizing his impactful projects and policies that profoundly improved the lives of Ondo citizens.
“Dr. Mimiko is a leader who transformed Ondo State through impactful projects and policies. His dedication to human-centered governance earned him the love and respect of the people,” Aiyedatiwa said
He further praised Mimiko for completing his tenure on a high note, stating: “This celebration is a testament to the legacy he has built and the affection people have for him. It is indeed a rare blessing to witness such honor while still alive.”
Aiyedatiwa acknowledged Mimiko’s contributions to infrastructure development, healthcare, education, and social programs, noting they remain an inspiration for the current administration and future leaders.
Pastor Wale Akinfesoye, a former Chaplain of the Government House Chapel, delivered a short exhortation, encouraging Mimiko to further dedicate his life to God’s service. He also urged political leaders to see their positions as opportunities to serve humanity, reminding them of their accountability.
In his response, Mimiko expressed deep gratitude to the people of Ondo State and the organizers of the event for the love and recognition shown to him.
“It is deeply humbling to be celebrated in this way. I am grateful to God, my family, and the good people of Ondo State for believing in my vision and supporting me throughout my tenure,” he said.
He pledged to continue contributing to the development of Ondo State and credited his family, especially his wife Oluwakemi, for their unwavering support.
Mrs. Mimiko described her husband as a visionary leader whose legacy has positively impacted the lives of many, urging other politicians to emulate his example and leave behind enduring legacies.
Dr. Mimiko served as Ondo State governor from 2009 to 2017, becoming the first governor in the state’s history to complete two terms.
Traditional rulers at the event included the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Ogunlade; the Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Kiladejo; the Owa of Igbara-Oke, Oba Francis Agbede; and the Olu of Ilu-Abo, Oba Olu Falae, among other dignitaries.
The celebration highlighted Mimiko’s enduring influence and the respect he commands within the state.
