Afrobeats star Tiwa Savage has emphasized the need for artists to foster strong relationships with their fans to achieve lasting success.
Speaking on a recent episode of the “Shopping The Sneakers” podcast, Savage explained that building a deep connection with fans allows artists to transcend their music and become an integral part of their audience’s lives.
She highlighted her colleagues Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy as prime examples of artists who have cultivated loyal fanbases.
According to Savage, this connection keeps them relevant, even during periods when they are not releasing new music.
Savage added that a dedicated fanbase is essential for an artist’s longevity and continued success in the music industry.
She emphasised the importance of being relatable, having a strong brand, and connecting with fans on a personal level.
“It’s not just about the music; it’s your fanbase and your brand. You’ve to think of your fashion. You’ve to be relatable. A lot of times, artists are just putting out music; they are not really connecting with the fans.
“I think it’s really important to connect with the fans. If you look at Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy, they have established relationships with their fanbases. They love their lifestyles. Whether they are dropping a song or not, they are in the conversation. So it’s really important to build a fanbase. You are only good as strong as your team,” she said.
