A massive fire has broken out at the popular fitness centre, Eco Fitness Hub, in the Gwarinpa area of Abuja.
The FCT Emergency Management Department disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
Spokesperson of the FCT Emergency Management Department, Nkechi Isa, said the fire has been contained by emergency officials.
The cause of the fire outbreak is unknown.
Officials on ground included the police, Red Cross, FCT Fire Services, Federal Fire Services, FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD), and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
“The fire, which started in the lounge of the fitness centre and quickly spread was brought under control by a combined team of the FCT Fire Services, Federal Fire Services, FCT Emergency Management Department (FEMD), and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA),” she said.
No life was lost in the incident.
She stated that there were no casualties from the incident, but most of the fitness equipment at the gym was, however, destroyed by the fire.
“The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained,” Isa added.
Emergency officials succeeded in putting out the fire.
On his part, the Ag Director General of FEMD, Engr Abdulrahman Mohammed, appealed to FCT residents to be cautious as the dry season sets in.
Abdulrahman advised that electrical appliances must be switched when not in use and also cautioned against indiscriminate bush burning.
This is not the first case of a fire outbreak in the nation’s capital.
The FEMD boss urged residents to always use the 112 emergency toll-free number in the event of an emergency.
