The Senate on Thursday passed a vote of confidence in President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and entire Senate leadership after a rumoured impeachment twenty-four hours ago.

The passage of the vote was a sequel to a motion sponsored by Senator Abdul Ningi.

Before the motion, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi said his privilege had been breached because northern senators were said to be behind the alleged move to remove the Senate President.

He said there had not been any attempt by any northern senator to challenge Akpabio’s good work.

He said, “I am a northern senator, and my privilege has been breached by these allegations.

“I am a senior member of this chamber and member of the Northern Senators Forum, I can tell you that there is no attempt that I know of by a caucus or any group among the northern senators.”

After Abdullahi’s submission, Ningi said if the senators are not comfortable with Akpabio’s leadership, they would confront him.

He said, “I move that we impose a vote of confidence on you as President of the Senate, Deputy President of the Senate and entire leadership of the Senate.”

Thereafter, Ningi’s motion was put into voice vote, which was overwhelmingly adopted by all lawmakers.
