The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Alake, has declared a new frontier for Nigeria’s economic growth, pledging full government support to unlock the vast mineral wealth of the South-South region.

Receiving the Director-General of the South-South Development Commission, Ms. Usoro Offiong Akpabio, and her delegation in Abuja, in a statement obtained by Veracity Desk (veracitydesk.com) Alake emphasized that while the region is famed for its oil and gas, its untapped solid minerals hold immense promise for investment, job creation, and industrial expansion.

“Our task is to align strategies and work together to unlock the South-South’s full mineral potential,” Alake stated, assuring the Commission of the Ministry’s commitment to responsible resource development, local processing, and value creation for communities.

Discussions also centered on enabling states to participate directly in mining through structured state-owned entities and valid mining titles, signaling a shift toward inclusive and sustainable resource management.

This move marks a bold step in diversifying Nigeria’s economy and positioning the South-South as a hub not only for hydrocarbons but also for solid mineral prosperity.
