The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) have introduced a one-off verification system for WASSCE O’Level results presented by candidates seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions.
The new arrangement takes effect from September 1, 2026, and is designed to simplify the admission process, reduce costs and eliminate repeated verification of the same WAEC results by candidates.
Under the arrangement, candidates seeking admission into institutions whose admission processes are regulated by JAMB will be required to verify their WAEC results once through the designated JAMB Verification Service.
Once successfully verified, the result and verification outcome will be made available to the relevant institution for admission screening, processing and other approved administrative purposes.
WAEC has authorised JAMB to share the verification outcomes with relevant tertiary institutions.
₦4,000 one-off fee
Candidates will pay a one-off verification fee of ₦4,000 through the designated JAMB verification platform.
JAMB and WAEC advised candidates not to pay the fee directly to tertiary institutions, officials or third parties for the same verification service.
To complete the process, candidates are required to access the JAMB Verification Service, provide their candidate and WASSCE details, make the payment through the approved channel and submit the result for verification.
Candidates will then await confirmation of the verification outcome, after which the verified result will be made available to the relevant institution through the approved JAMB system.
The examination and admission bodies advised candidates to retain their payment confirmation and verification details for future reference.
No duplicate verification fees
Under the new arrangement, tertiary institutions are expected to rely on verified WASSCE results supplied through JAMB for admission-related purposes.
Candidates who have successfully completed the JAMB verification should therefore not be required to pay another fee to verify the same WASSCE result for the same admission process.
JAMB and WAEC said the arrangement would reduce unnecessary expenses, prevent duplication of verification exercises and minimise the inconvenience of repeated visits to institutions and CBT centres.
The two organisations urged candidates to use only the designated JAMB Verification Service and follow the approved payment and verification procedures.
They also reaffirmed their commitment to protecting the integrity and security of candidates’ academic records while making the tertiary admission process more efficient, transparent and candidate-friendly.
