Former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Rotimi Makinde, who represented Ife Federal Constituency, has publicly expressed deep appreciation to his former colleague and political ally, Hon. James Faleke, describing him as a mentor, a brother, and a hero in Nigeria’s political landscape.
In a heartfelt statement obtained by Veracity Desk (veracitydesk.com), titled “Appreciation to a Brother, a Mentor, a Hero: Hon. James Faleke,” Makinde reflected on Faleke’s intervention during a turbulent political season in Osun State, acknowledging his courage and commitment to truth.
“You stood in the gap when many were silent. You spoke truth. You pushed for what was right. Your parallel intervention was massive, recognised and appreciated,” Makinde wrote.
He admitted that despite Faleke’s efforts, the political tide in Osun proved overwhelming, leading to outcomes that did not reflect the sacrifices made. Makinde described this as a mystery that those in power have refused to explain, while offering his sincerest apologies to Faleke for what he termed a collective failure.
“We, as a people, failed you. We failed to rise to the responsibility of the role you were designated to play. We failed to make the meaningful impact that your sacrifice deserved,” he added.
Makinde praised Faleke’s role in radicalizing political engagement and inspiring changes, however modest, in the system. He emphasized that history would record Faleke as a man who stood tall in a difficult season, embodying the qualities of a mentor, a hero, and a committed friend.
He lamented the toxic nature of Osun politics today, stressing that the state is in dire need of men of conscience and integrity, like Faleke.
“Osun politics is toxic today, and it is begging for men of conscience. Men like you, sir. Thank you, my brother. We are grateful,”
