The young woman at the centre of the recent controversy involving her exchange with businessman Tony Elumelu at a United Bank for Africa (UBA) event has received a ₦500,000 cash support offer, a complimentary VIP trip, and an ambassadorial role from Ossai Ovie Success, Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Delta State Governor.
The trainee, whose greeting of “Good morning, Tony” sparked widespread debate on social media, has faced intense public scrutiny and criticism. However, Ossai stepped forward with a message of encouragement, stressing that the incident should not define her negatively.
“I know the internet can be harsh. Depression is real and words cut deep. She made a mistake, but we don’t need to torment her daily; she needs our support,” Ossai said.
He announced a ₦500,000 cash gift alongside a VIP package to attend the Delta Social Media Summit (4th Edition) scheduled for August 27, 2026, at the Mariam Babangida Leisure Park, opposite Dennis Osadebay University in Asaba. The package includes flight tickets, five-star hotel accommodation, and a guided tour of developmental projects in Delta State.
In addition, the young woman will receive VIP access to the summit and be conferred with a brand ambassador role for the annual platform, which promotes digital engagement and social innovation.
Ossai also commended Tony Elumelu for his intervention during the incident, describing it as a necessary correction to reinforce respect in society. He appealed to the public to help connect him with the trainee, assuring her that his gesture was aimed at turning the controversy into an opportunity for growth.
“Let’s turn this pain into purpose. She won’t be disappointed,” he added.
The Delta Social Media Summit, now in its fourth edition, continues to serve as a hub for influencers, policymakers, and digital entrepreneurs, highlighting the growing importance of social media in shaping narratives and opportunities in Nigeria.
