The Edo State Government has dismissed claims circulating online that popular Nigerian music star, David Adedeji Adeleke, known professionally as Davido, was banned from entering the state.

In a strongly worded statement, Prince Kassim Afegbua, Mnipr, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, described the alleged ban as the handiwork of impostors and enemies of Edo State. He emphasized that the government had no such policy and reaffirmed that Edo remains a welcoming home for all Nigerians regardless of belief, political persuasion, or affiliation.

“Like all other Nigerians, we love and welcome Davido in Edo State. The proclaimer of that ban is an enemy of Edo State; an impostor, and a fraud,” Afegbua declared.

He noted that Davido, whose mother hails from Edo, is considered one of the state’s illustrious sons and a global ambassador for Nigeria through his music. Afegbua stressed that the government would be pleased to host and collaborate with him should he choose to perform in Edo in the future.

Addressing recent political tensions, Afegbua clarified that whatever transpired in Osun State during last week’s election was purely political and not personal. He praised Davido’s contributions to Nigeria’s global image, describing him as a bridge-builder across socio-political divides and expressing optimism about his prospects of winning a Grammy award.

The statement underscores Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to inclusivity and balance across demographics, while positioning Edo State as a hub of hospitality and cultural pride.
