Hon. Kayode Akinmade has established himself as one of the most influential figures in Nigeria’s public relations and communications space. His career, spanning journalism, government service, and strategic advisory roles, reflects a rare blend of intellectual rigor, humility, and leadership.

Currently, Akinmade serves as Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Ogun State Governor, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun.

In this capacity, he functions as the chief spokesperson and media strategist for the administration, shaping narratives around government policies, infrastructural projects, security initiatives, and official appointments. His work ensures that governance in Ogun State is communicated with clarity, transparency, and purpose.

To many, Akinmade is remembered as the former Commissioner for Information and Strategy in Ondo State under Dr. Olusegun Rahman Mimiko. To others, he is an accomplished journalist and PR professional. Yet his influence transcends titles. His career has consistently demonstrated excellence, mentorship, and innovation in public communication.

During his tenure as Special Adviser to Rt. Hon. Dimeji Bankole, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Akinmade transformed the media operations of the legislature. He pioneered the inclusion of students on industrial attachment, NYSC members, and young aides in drafting articles, opinion pieces, and reports on House resolutions. This initiative not only enhanced the image of the Speaker and the 6th House of Representatives but also nurtured a new generation of communicators.

Colleagues and mentees recall his humility, respect for all cadres of staff, and his ability to bring out the best in his team. “His humility didn’t just speak, it screamed,” one mentee remarked, describing him as a mentor, father figure, and leader extraordinaire.

Born on January 9, 1967, Akinmade began his educational journey at Christ Nursery and Primary School, Ado‑Ekiti, before proceeding to Oluorogbo Grammar School, Akure. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Language from Ondo State University (now Ekiti State University) in 1992, followed by a postgraduate diploma in Journalism from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism.

His pursuit of knowledge advanced further at the University of Lagos, where he obtained a Master’s degree in Public and International Affairs. Determined to broaden his intellectual and professional horizons, he refined his expertise at the prestigious Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, earning a certificate in Crisis and Conflict Management.

This academic progression underscores his commitment to excellence and his recognition of the evolving demands of leadership and communication in contemporary society. Importantly, his hunger for knowledge remains undiminished, driving him toward new frontiers of learning and ensuring his career remains relevant, impactful, and responsive to modern challenges.

For Akinmade, education is not a destination but a lifelong journey, one that equips him to meet the complexities of governance, public relations, and strategic communication with clarity, innovation, and resilience. His blend of academic rigor and professional experience has positioned him as one of Nigeria’s most respected voices in public relations.

As Governor Abiodun’s Special Adviser, Akinmade has consistently built bridges between government and the public, reinforcing the belief that the ultimate purpose of knowledge is problem‑solving and service to society.

Today, Kayode Akinmade stands as a metaphor for PR and communications excellence—a man whose career embodies leadership, mentorship, and dedication to truth. His journey continues to inspire journalists, communicators, and public servants across Nigeria, serving as a reminder that true influence lies not in titles but in the impact one leaves on people, institutions, and society.
