Prominent Ibadan-based publisher and social commentator, Mogaji Wole Arisekola, has penned an emotional tribute to the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, recalling their friendship, shared experiences, and the remarkable journey of the businessman-turned-politician.
In his reflection titled “Continue to Rest in Peace, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah”, Arisekola recounted first meeting Ubah in 2006 aboard a KLM flight from Amsterdam. That encounter, he said, blossomed into a close friendship marked by travels, business pursuits, and mutual support.
He described how they made Abuja their second home, hosted by Chief Alaba Yusuf, and how they endured the struggles of their early days, including chasing after unfulfilled promises. Arisekola also recalled flying with Ubah on several occasions, including a memorable trip with the late Senator Buruji Kashamu.
Despite the ups and downs of their relationship, Arisekola emphasised Ubah’s resilience and determination, noting that he rose from humble beginnings to become one of Nigeria’s most recognised personalities.
“Above all, you were a fighter, a determined and resilient businessman. You came with nothing, struggled against the odds, and rose to become one of Nigeria’s most recognised personalities. You conquered,” Arisekola wrote.
He prayed for Allah’s forgiveness of Ubah’s shortcomings and for his soul to find rest in Aljannah, describing him as “my personal person.”
The tribute adds to the growing chorus of condolences and reflections on Ubah’s life, highlighting his legacy as a businessman, politician, and philanthropist who left an indelible mark on Nigeria’s political and social landscape.
