The House of Representatives descended into a tense and disorderly session on Wednesday as lawmakers clashed over a motion addressing delays in budget implementation and the release of funds to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

The motion, sponsored by Hon. Mascot Ikwechegh of Abia State, highlighted concerns about the slow pace of budget execution and the adverse impact of funding delays on government operations.

One of the key demands in the motion was for President Bola Tinubu to appear before the House to provide clarity on issues surrounding budget implementation and fund disbursement.

This proposal, however, triggered sharp divisions among members. Lawmakers opposed to the motion repeatedly interrupted proceedings, chanting “sit down” at colleagues who spoke in support. The heated exchanges disrupted the session and prolonged debate for nearly 30 minutes.

At the conclusion of deliberations, Speaker of the House Hon. Tajudeen Abbas ruled against the motion. He explained that the prayers read on the floor differed from those contained in the original document submitted by the sponsor, describing the variation as a deviation from the approved text.
