Governor Monday Okpebholo has a way of putting opposition politicians in Edo state to shame- (especially the remnants that are still gallivanting around), an inherently effective means of instilling discipline. Each time they tell a lie, the lie detector goes off!!
The truth lies in his projects and accomplishments. They are not holed up in the bowels of Memorandum of Understanding, the article of trade of his predecessor.
His accomplishments are visible and veracious across the land; even a blind man with additional impairment can see and feel them everywhere and tell of the Governor’s service delivery. His determination to rewrite Edo’s inherited ugly story, and place the state at the Olympian height it deserves, is his focus. His virulent traducers are pining in corners and shame, working and reworking their fabrications. Governor Okpebholo is not a braggart.
He doesn’t engage in demagoguery and or dog any pony shows, and he is still very humble. He has proved bookmakers wrong both by his approach and his temper. His strong political will is inimitable. His footprints in the restructuring of the physical infrastructure, social and economic climate within the state tell it all. He has read kidnappers the riot act, and action has begun. He has promised to make Edo state safe and comfortable for all, and he is on it.
Come to think of it, where is his inspiration and official enablement coming from? Obviously from the center. Edo state is gradually bridging the gap between ancient civilization and contemporary modernity, the quality of the projects that are making Benin City wear its new look.
From the well lit Ramat Park flyover, cultured with underground drains and well-paved walkways, to the new albatoir that is just about to take off, to the Adesuwa Junction flyover, that adds to the beauty of the Sapele Road well-structured reconstruction, down to the by-pass, spruced up by the roads network at Temboga, Ewvbotubu, Ekhehuan road extension, Usen roads network, and several other schools that have been revamped and reconstructed, the whole of Edo state is busy with ongoing construction.
With all these verifiable information, speaking for themselves Governor Okpebholo need not speak on them lest it all comes to a raucous. He remains clip phrased, measured in his approach, and serviceable in his duties. His campaign promises summarised in his SHINE agenda have not been abandoned. From Edo South, Edo Central to Edo North, Okpebholo’s achievements have become reference point for modern governance study.
As general elections are fast approaching, it means that the season for telling lies especially by opposition politicians, to woo voters is here. Falling short of ideas with which to campaign, opposition politicians will readily whip up sentiments to attract the undiscerning, and try to hoodwink them with bogus and unfounded claims, with assurances that their voices matter and they can change the order.
By day, they tell claim that nothing is happening in Edo; but at night, they echoe Okpebholo’s inexorable intervention in infrastructural renewal and transformation. Okpebholo’s office is part of a larger system and that’s the system that is working. Many members of the opposition political parties have rooted themselves in the APC today; thanks to Okpebholo’s works that have won them over, defeating self deceit and other encumbrances.
Addled by the difficulties they face on how to twist the narrative, the opposition have resorted to telling lies- lies for the season and a reason. Elections are by the corner, and we know and expect that lies will reign, betrayals will fill the air, backbiting will be revalued, and fabrications and orchestrations will assume a prime place, all in a bid to lead the people to animal nothingness.
It is not unusual; when elections are approaching, and men become boys, with women becoming girls, when conscience is battled, liars will readily have a field day, because they believe in their vainglorious mentality that politics thrives in lies and monkey business. I admonish Edo people not to be fooled. When the noise of the day tries to evaporate the voices within, refusing to fall silent; piercing your minds ears and scribbling in the notebook of history, writing with the truth; listen and hearken and choose right.
Your choice has consequences and can save you from the horror and crippling regret and ingratitude that could come from allowing your votes enable despots and amplify lies, and aid the destruction of our heritage, while calling for unspeakable inequality and suffering to our people; for if Edo State were to fall into the hands of ravenous predators again, all that has been gained recently, will add up to a loss.
We must therefore protect the Governor, his accomplishments, his initiatives and his synergy in building a homogeneous state with shared commitment. Okpebholo’s works have been greatly enabled by President Tinubu and his reformist policies, hence his call that all Edo people come out to return the president to office for a second term has become remarkable.
The federal and state governments are working!!! No matter the amount of lies and machinations that are being romanced, Okpebholo’s Edo remains impregnable as the election approaches. And the opposition knows this.
Edo’s position in 2027 will be determined by the people’s response to qualitative and quantitative achievements that the Federal Government of Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu and the Edo state Government under Governor Okpebholo have made, to reposition the state, and put it on the road to success. The works continue. The system is working. The re-election of the President is desirable.
