Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has delivered a decisive directive, issuing a 72-hour ultimatum for the removal of illegal structures and unauthorized occupants along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.

The announcement serves as a final warning to those encroaching on public infrastructure, underscoring the administration’s commitment to restoring order and ensuring environmental sustainability across the state.

The governor’s pronouncement followed the monthly sanitation exercise conducted in Ojuelegba, Surulere, and Kosofe, where he reiterated the importance of collective responsibility in achieving a cleaner, healthier Lagos. He emphasized that both government enforcement and citizen participation are essential to maintaining a functional and livable metropolis.

In line with this directive, Governor Sanwo-Olu ordered the immediate demolition of illegal structures obstructing the expressway corridor. He urged residents to actively support the government’s efforts by adhering to environmental regulations and playing their part in safeguarding public spaces.

To strengthen waste management capacity, the governor revealed that the state has procured 150 additional compactor trucks, significantly boosting logistics and enhancing waste collection operations. This investment reflects the administration’s broader strategy to modernize sanitation infrastructure and improve service delivery across Lagos.

Governor Sanwo-Olu’s ultimatum signals a renewed push for urban discipline, environmental accountability, and infrastructural renewal, reinforcing his administration’s vision of a cleaner, safer, and more organized Lagos.

He noted that the state government is coming up with a robust landfill management plan to increase turnaround time for PSP operators.

The Governor also appealed to residents to pay their waste bills and stop the habit of indiscriminate dumping of refuse.

While announcing a 72-hour ultimatum to clear the Lagos-Badagry expressway corridor and all illegal structures off the road, he insisted that the state government will not permit unapproved operations along the highway.

“From next week, we are coming to clear the entire median. Everything there will go”, he added.
