Southampton F.C. have been expelled from the Championship playoffs after an Independent Disciplinary Commission found it guilty of multiple breaches of EFL regulations relating to the unauthorised filming of rival clubs’ training sessions.
Journalist and EPL commentator Ben Jacobs revealed that Southampton admitted to several violations involving the observation of opposition training sessions within 72 hours of scheduled matches.
The incidents reportedly involved fixtures against Oxford United F.C. in December 2025, Ipswich Town F.C. in April 2026, and Middlesbrough F.C. in May 2026
As part of the ruling, Southampton have also been handed a four-point deduction for the 2026/27 season.
Following the decision, Middlesbrough F.C. will now take Southampton’s place in the playoff fixture against Hull City A.F.C. on May 23.
Despite the punishment, Southampton still retain the right to appeal, with all parties reportedly aiming to resolve the matter by May 20.
