Nigeria’s comedian and actor, Bovi Ugboma, and South African actress, Nomzamo Mbatha, have been officially unveiled as co-hosts of the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
The film and television awards ceremony is set to take place on May 9, 2026, at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Lagos.
Together, Bovi and Nomzamo will take over from popular host IK Osakioduwa, who served as the face of the AMVCAs for a decade, anchoring the ceremony from its early years and becoming synonymous with the show’s energy and prestige.
Speaking on his appointment, Bovi expressed excitement and a sense of responsibility. “The AMVCA stage is one of the biggest in Africa, and I don’t take that lightly,” he said. “I want to bring the energy, the laughs, and the magic that this night deserves. African storytelling is at an all-time high, and it’s an honour to be the one holding the mic while we celebrate the best of it.”
Nomzamo Mbatha brings extraordinary global credibility to the stage. The actress, producer, and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador rose to international prominence with her role in ‘Coming 2 America’ and currently stars as Queen Nandi in the acclaimed epic drama series ‘Shaka ilembe,’ for which she also serves as Executive Producer.
The nominees for the 12th edition of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards have already been unveiled, building anticipation for what promises to be a spectacular evening.
Veteran actress Joke Silva takes the seat as the Head Judge for the 12th edition, bringing an added layer of industry authority to the judging process and ensuring the integrity of the awards remains front and centre.
With 32 categories — 18 jury-decided, 11 public-voted, and 3 special recognition awards — the 12th AMVCA promises a fiercely competitive run.
