Nigeria’s former Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun has formally handed over office to his successor and ex Minister of State for Finance, Taiwo Oyedele.
Both Edun and Oyedele did the handing/takeover exercise behind closed-doors out of media coverage.
The handover ceremony photo was posted on the official X handle of the Federal Ministry of Finance some few ministers to 12am on Thursday (April 23, 2026) night.
Journalists had been been placed on standby by media handlers of the ministry from early morning of Thursday up until towards evening of the day when a message came thusly, “Apologies. Edun to now handover behind closed- doors. We are to now expect a statement.”
The sudden change of plans, especially media invites created the suspense on why both Edun and Oyedele decided to conduct the ceremony out of media or public glare.
There had been speculations that Mr. Edun was eased out of the cabinet by President Bola Tinubu dues to sundry issues, including ill-health, conduction of budget performance report and the need to get a vibrant replacement who can better do the bidding of the president.
