A grassroots movement, Working People United, has been unveiled with the mandate to mobilise and advocate for policies that benefit the working class.
While calling on Nigerians who believe in progress, stability and national development to join the movement, the group affirmed its commitment to work towards ensuring that the country continues to tread on the path of reform, growth, and opportunity.
Coordinator, Working People United, Williams Akporeha, during the unveiling of the movement in Abuja, said its mission was to galvanise and mobilise all Nigerians across all sectors of the economy to actively participate in shaping the future of the country and to ensure the continuation of leadership that prioritises national development, economic stability, and the welfare of the masses.
He said as the nation looks ahead to its upcoming general elections next year, the movement would play a critical role in ensuring that the progress currently being made by the present administration is sustained and enhanced.
He noted that the movement’s goal is to mobilise millions of workers, artisans, traders, farmers, professionals and everyday Nigerians to support the continuation of policies and programmes designed to rebuild the economy and strengthen the national institutions for a greater Nigeria.
While highlighting the reforms and policies introduced by the current administration led by President Bola Tinubu, Akporeha said it demonstrated courage, foresight and commitment to building a stronger Nigeria.
Beyond wages, he said the administration has introduced several pro-people and pro-poor initiatives designed to cushion the effects of economic reforms and support vulnerable Nigerians.
According to him, through expanded social investment programmes and direct cash transfer initiatives, millions of low-income households are being supported with financial assistance to help them meet basic needs.
These targeted interventions, Akporeha said, are helping to protect the most vulnerable members of society while broader economic reforms take effect.
“Policies aimed at improving access to credit for small businesses, traders, and artisans are gradually expanding economic opportunities at the grassroots level. These initiatives recognise that Nigeria’s economy is driven not only by large corporations but also by millions of hardworking small-scale entrepreneurs across the country.
“Working People United, therefore, stands as a platform to enlighten Nigerians about these reforms, to promote constructive engagement between government and citizens, and to mobilise and advocate for policies that will move the nation forward,” he said.
Noting that the movement would empower citizens with facts and a vision of a better Nigeria, Akporeha urged Nigerians to reject the politics of misinformation, division, and empty promises.
Rather, the Working People United coordinator urged that the citizens must embrace responsible citizenship, constructive dialogue, and collective national purpose.
