The conversation around the Gateway International Agro-Cargo Airport must be anchored in facts, not fleeting impressions.
Aviation infrastructure is not validated by anecdote or opinion. It is certified through rigorous, globally accepted standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization and enforced locally by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority. Runways are tested, measured, and calibrated before they are cleared for operation. That is the discipline of the industry.
Claims of “undulation,” especially when made outside formal safety reporting channels, should be treated as preliminary at best. Large-scale infrastructure projects often pass through visible construction phases where surfaces are yet to undergo final compaction, surfacing, and calibration. To present such transitional states as structural failure is to mislead the public.
Beyond the noise, we must not lose sight of the strategic importance of this project under Dapo Abiodun. The airport is designed as a critical agro-logistics hub one that can unlock export potential, reduce post-harvest losses, and position Ogun State as a gateway to global markets.
Nigeria cannot afford to undermine its own progress through unverified narratives. Where there are genuine concerns, let them be subjected to professional scrutiny and regulatory verification not trial by headline.
Development demands both ambition and responsibility. We must insist on both.
