The African Women Lawyers Association (AWLA), Abuja Chapter, has commended the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Police Force for their alertness and decisive action in intercepting a suspected child trafficking attempt in Nyanya, Abuja.

Speaking on the incident, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Aladegbami, Coordinator of AWLA Abuja Chapter, described the intervention as a clear demonstration of professionalism, courage, and institutional responsibility. She noted that the prompt action taken by officers on routine duty helped avert a potentially grave violation of the rights and safety of vulnerable children.

Mrs. Aladegbami stated that the interception underscores the critical role of frontline agencies in identifying and responding to crimes that threaten human dignity, particularly those involving children. She also acknowledged the importance of cooperation between the FRSC and the Nigeria Police Force in ensuring that the matter was swiftly escalated for investigation and appropriate protective measures.

According to her, child trafficking remains a serious offence with long-term physical, psychological, and social consequences for victims, and incidents such as this highlight the need for sustained vigilance, intelligence sharing, and accountability within and across law enforcement institutions.

She further called for stronger community engagement, timely reporting of suspicious activities, and the consistent enforcement of child protection laws to deter traffickers and safeguard children across the Federal Capital Territory.

Mrs. Aladegbami reaffirmed AWLA Abuja Chapter’s commitment to promoting access to justice, supporting child protection initiatives, and collaborating with relevant authorities and stakeholders to combat trafficking, abuse, and all forms of exploitation.
