The driver of the vehicle involved in the accident that claimed the lives of two associates of former heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway has been taken into custody by the police.
Confirming the development on Thursday, Oluseyi Babaseyi, the police public relations officer (PPRO) of the Ogun State Command, said the driver of the Lexus SUV conveying Joshua and his team is currently being held as investigations continue.
“The driver of the Lexus SUV is currently in custody in connection with the Anthony Joshua accident case. Investigations are ongoing,” Babaseyi said in a post on X.
The crash occurred on Monday when the Lexus SUV reportedly rammed into a stationary truck along the busy expressway.
Two members of Joshua’s team, Kevin Latif Ayodele, his personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach, died as a result of the accident.
Joshua survived the crash and was admitted for treatment. He was later discharged from Lagoon Hospital, Ikoyi, Lagos, late Wednesday night, after doctors confirmed that he was clinically fit to continue his recovery at home.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) said the accident involved five adult males, with two fatalities recorded, one person injured, and two others escaping unhurt.
According to the FRSC, preliminary findings indicate that the crash was caused by excessive speed and wrongful overtaking, which the agency described as among the leading causes of fatal road accidents on Nigerian highways.
