Explosions rocked parts of Offa, a town in Kwara, late Thursday destroying properties and causing panic among residents.

The explosions happened the same night the United States launched a fusillade of air strikes on ISIS terrorists in Sokoto.

Air travel distance from Offa to Sokoto is around 540 kilometres.

According to reports, the first explosion affected several buildings around a Muslim praying ground area, while the second occurred near Solid Worth Hotel, located about a five-minute walk from the initial site.

An undetonated explosive device was reportedly discovered at the second location, prompting heightened security measures. However, the exact source and nature of the explosions are unclear.

Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, Kwara police spokesperson, told TheCable that the incident happened around 10 pm.

“Investigations are ongoing of that incident to ascertain what exactly happened, if it is an explosion or not,” she said.

In a separate statement, Abiola Babatunde, chief press secretary to the Offa LGA chairman, said the council was aware of the situation,

Babatunde noted that the affected areas have been cordoned off by security agencies to allow for thorough investigation. (THE CABLE)
