The Comptroller General of Customs, Dr Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, has been commended for his exceptional job performance by High Chief Jacob Egietseme Idinye since his appointment into office by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.
Idinye noted that Adeniyi’s leadership with strong synergy with his management team has been instrumental in the Nigeria Customs Service’s remarkable growth in revenue and its role in safeguarding Nigeria’s borders.
He acknowledged that CG’s commitment to transparency, operational efficiency, and improved revenue generation has significantly contributed to Nigeria’s economic stability, stressing that the numerous awards and accolades received by the Customs boss reflect the collective recognition of his transformative leadership and the positive impact he has had on the Customs service.
According to Idinye, several breakthroughs recorded by the CG of Customs who is also the Chairman of World Customs Organisation (WCO) were parts of the success stories of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR in commemoration of his two-year anniversary in office.
He further expressed satisfaction with Adeniyi’s initiatives, emphasizing its positive impact on stakeholders. He highlighted the innovative interventions in the Service, saying it has been returned to capable hands well-versed in the system’s nuances, trade facilitation, dedication, revenue generation and dedication to officers’ career progression.
Speaking on Christmas Day, Thursday, December 25, 2025 with some maritime reporters in Lagos, Idinye remarked, “The Comptroller-General’s numerous milestones are quite commendable and they are reflections of a stronger commitment and patriotism to rid Nigeria of economic sabotage and other related nefarious activities. I have said it before, Dr. Wale Adeniyi’s appointment by President Bola Tinubu was a round peg in a round hole. He has signed various agreements including Chinese partnership with Nigeria in export and import.”
Foreseeing a notable improvement in the Nigerian maritime sub-sector, Idinye also credited the recent upward positive surge in the Service’s revenue to the strategic leadership of Adeniyi, emphasizing President Bola Tinubu’s astute selection.
“Under Comptroller-General Adeniyi’s guidance, the Nigeria Customs Service has demonstrated commendable resilience and innovation, particularly in streamlining operations and enforcing critical directives for the benefit of the nation. His proactive measures against smuggling and other illicit activities, which have reinforced border security and contributed to Nigeria’s economic stability are quite commendable.

The Etsako High Chief further hailed the Nigeria Customs Service for collaborating with Songhai Health Trust whereby officers stand to access the National Health Insurance Scheme which is a way to boost their performance and commitment to national interest and upholding the ethics and integrity of the service.
“This is a way of providing quality health care services to officers that are affordable and stress-free. It is an insurance program that when officers key into it they will have no course to regret it. The new leadership of NCS is leaving no stone unturned to improve on the welfare of its officers by all standards.” Idinye stated
